New Year, New Self-Care Routine – 7 Tips to Use

Did you know adopting a daily self-care routine will greatly enhance your overall wellbeing? Taking the time to honor yourself will essentially make you better for others. Here are some self-care tips you can take with you every day:

  1. Find a quiet time during the day to just be
    • When we are quiet in the mind, we can focus on the realness of things. Make it known to your family that you will be taking a few moments to yourself every day to be away from the noise and be with yourself. Leave your phone in another room. Find a cozy spot to sit and meditate. Meditation is shown to relieve stress.
  2. Make sleep a priority
    • Studies show there is a direct correlation between getting good sleep and better heart health. Turn off your devices (you can even read a good book to help you fall asleep if you crave stimulation), get into cozy pajamas and melt into dreamland. You will wake up refreshed and energized to take on the day! Most importantly, your body will thank you.
  3. Exercise daily
    • Getting at least 3 hours a week of active movement will allow for better health. Join a yoga class or go to the gym or even take a walk in your neighborhood. As the saying “move it or lose it” goes, if we stay stagnant, our bodies will too.
  4. Saying “NO” to things is okay!
    • Don’t overexert yourself by saying yes to too many activities during the week. Allow yourself to say no to things that aren’t as important, your friends (and that smelly old bar) will still be there when you have had time to relax.
  5. Eat better than you did yesterday.
    • It is hard to maintain a strict diet everyday. When we have those days where we want to indulge, go for it. But make sure to get back on track so your health doesn’t deplete over those extra fries and chocolate chip cookies. (Looking in the mirror, here!)
  6. Go outside!
    • Every day, make it a point to spend some time outdoors. When we connect with nature, we value more of what is versus what we don’t have. And the exposure to a little vitamin D will help, too!
  7. Drink more water
    • Water is a beautiful resource that will help detox the body. Not only is it delicious, it has so many benefits for our overall health. Drink a glass first thing in the morning and be sure to refill throughout the day!
